USA, North Carolina, Goldsboro: Prolec GE Waukesha has begun construction on a major expansion at its Goldsboro facility, marking a $140 M investment aimed at strengthening transformer production in North America.
Company leaders joined state and local officials to celebrate the groundbreaking, which will create 330 new jobs and significantly increase output. Once completed, the site’s annual capacity will rise from 220 to 420 medium power transformers, adding 200 units each year.
The project is expected to take around two and a half years and will include engineering works, construction and the installation of new manufacturing equipment.
The Goldsboro facility has a long history, dating back to 1966 when operations first began under Hevi-Duty Electric. Today, the site spans 171,500 square feet and employs more than 350 people, producing transformers up to 60 MVA and 230 kV.
Company representatives described the investment as a key step in supporting growing demand for electrical infrastructure. The expansion is also expected to strengthen the regional economy and reinforce the reliability of the power grid.
Local and state leaders welcomed the development, highlighting its role in job creation, economic growth and long-term community benefits. Officials said the project reflects strong confidence in the local workforce and business environment, while helping meet rising energy needs across the region.
