Cuba, Holguín: The first transformers allocated to replace damaged equipment in Cuba’s Holguín province have begun arriving, as part of efforts to reduce power interruptions in local communities.
According to the Holguín Electric Company, 19 transformers were received on 20 July, out of a total of 37 units assigned to the province. The remaining equipment is currently being transported and is expected to be incorporated in the coming days.
The new transformers will be distributed among the municipalities of Holguín, Mayarí, Báguanos and Banes. Priority will be given to areas that have experienced the longest periods without electricity, based on existing outage records.
The province currently has 45 transformers out of service, directly affecting the same number of neighbourhoods. Before installation, the newly received equipment will undergo technical testing at a specialised workshop to confirm proper operation.
At the same time, nine 19,100 V transformers remain without immediate repair at this stage. These units will be transported to the “Latino” Transformer Factory in Havana, where the repair process is expected to begin next week.
The Holguín Electric Company said the replacement and installation of the transformers will not involve any cost to residents, as the work is covered by the company and the National Electric Union.
Sector authorities said they remain committed to the gradual recovery of the province’s electrical system despite current service challenges.
