USA, Hawaii, Honolulu: On 15 March in the afternoon, Hawaiian Electric reports that roughly 38,000 customers remain without power following the Kona low impacting the islands.

The utility said more than 300 crew members are in the field performing damage assessments and storm repairs, though estimated restoration times are still undetermined.

Oahu: About 12,000 customers are without electricity across multiple locations. Repairs to a major high-voltage transmission line along the H-3 Freeway at the Halekou Interchange have necessitated a full freeway closure in both directions. Hawaiian Electric Manager Darren Pai said, “Closing a freeway is a significant impact on the community, but it is necessary to safely repair high-voltage transmission lines that carry power across the mountains into Windward Oahu.”

Maui County: Around 9,700 customers remain without service, including areas in Upcountry, South, and East Maui. Crews are conducting both ground and aerial inspections in East Maui and Kula.

Hawaii Island: Approximately 16,000 customers are still without power, mostly in Puna and North and South Kona. Hawaiian Electric crews have begun damage assessments and are repairing several transmission lines affected by the storm.

The company said restoring electricity safely remains the priority, with ongoing efforts to evaluate and repair damaged infrastructure across all affected islands.
