Austria, Oed: ASTA Energy Solutions AG plans to invest around $19.4 M (€17 M) in a new copper recycling facility at its Oed site in Lower Austria, expanding recycling within its own value chain and reducing dependence on external copper suppliers.

The company plans to order the first machinery in 2026, with production expected to begin by the end of 2029. Copper scrap will come from ASTA’s own operations as well as from customers and suppliers.

The facility will produce copper wire from secondary copper and form part of ASTA’s Low Carbon Copper initiative. The company aims to increase the share of recycled copper used in production to 70 % by 2030.

ASTA says the vertically integrated approach is intended to shorten transport routes, reduce supply-chain complexity and improve security of supply.

The Austrian facility will build on experience from ASTA’s existing recycling platform in Brazil, while incorporating further technological development.

ASTA announced during its stock market listing in January 2026 that around 20 % of the proceeds would be invested in expanding recycling activities, including the development of a European recycling platform.

According to the company, around half of the copper currently used in Europe comes from recycled sources.
