Romania, Timișoara: Rețele Electrice România, part of the PPC group, has completed a $2.6 M (RON 12 M) modernisation of the 110 kV Azur transformer substation, which supplies more than 3,400 customers in eastern Timișoara.
The substation has a total capacity of 50 MVA, provided by two 25 MVA power transformers. The project included conversion of the medium-voltage side from 10 kV to 20 kV, increasing available capacity and supporting future growth in electricity demand.
A new 20 kV busbar section was installed together with primary and secondary equipment, eight 20 kV medium-voltage cells, protection systems and control circuits. A new 25 MVA transformer was also added to supply the 20 kV busbar.
On the high-voltage side, the existing 110 kV primary equipment was fully replaced with modern hybrid equipment. The new configuration includes two 110 kV line cells, two 110 kV/MV transformer cells and a 110 kV busbar system.
Rețele Electrice România said the upgrade is intended to improve network reliability and supply security while supporting residential and economic development in Timișoara.
