India, Pimpri-Chinchwad: A suspected high-intensity blast at an electrical substation in Chinchwad triggered a major fire on 5 September, prompting authorities to cut power to surrounding areas.

Fire crews and emergency teams were dispatched to the site as flames spread through parts of the substation and thick smoke rose from the facility.

Electricity supply to nearby industrial and residential areas was suspended as a precaution to prevent further damage from affecting the wider network. Authorities said supply would remain cut until the site had been fully assessed and declared safe.

Teams from the power distribution utility and local administration are inspecting the substation to determine the cause of the explosion and the extent of the damage.

Power will be restored once safety checks have been completed and any necessary repairs have been carried out.

Residents and businesses in the surrounding area have been advised to keep away from the site while emergency and assessment work continues.
