Mexico: Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has undertaken six critical reliability initiatives to bolster the National Transmission Grid (RNT) and ensure consistent power delivery across the country.
These measures, led by the company’s Transmission division, target modernisation, outage prevention, and operational safety. Key actions include the replacement of lightning arresters and power circuit breakers, which protect essential infrastructure from electrical surges and support safe disconnection during faults.
CFE is also upgrading instrument transformers to improve system monitoring and enhance the accuracy of protection mechanisms. Electrical testing of primary equipment is being conducted to minimise the risk of unplanned outages and expensive repairs.
Additional work includes servicing 125 V and 48 V battery banks that support emergency backup systems, as well as performing thermal imaging inspections on power transformers. These thermal scans are essential for early detection of potential faults, helping prevent service interruptions.
CFE highlighted that these proactive steps are vital as the transmission network becomes increasingly complex and critical to national energy security. With electricity demand continuing to grow, the company aims to strengthen the resilience and reliability of its grid infrastructure.
