Australia, Western Australia, Perth: Construction has started on Western Power’s Clean Energy Link – North project, including two new transmission lines linking Padbury and Wangara substations and Northern Terminal with Henley Brook.
ACCIONA is acting as delivery partner for the programme and is responsible for the design and construction of the transmission lines, the Wangara Substation to Neerabup Terminal project, and upgrades to several substations across the region.
The start of construction was marked at Wangara Substation in Perth’s northern suburbs, with representatives from the Western Australian Government, Western Power, ACCIONA and project partners attending a ceremonial sod-turning event.
The infrastructure is intended to increase transmission capacity and support the connection of additional renewable generation to Western Australia’s electricity network.
ACCIONA said the programme builds on its experience delivering major transmission projects across Australia and will involve close coordination with Western Power and other project stakeholders.
Kris Gordon, ACCIONA’s Clean Energy Link Program Director, said the project had now moved from planning into construction and would support Western Australia’s long-term energy needs.
