UK: Construction has officially begun on the 1.4 GW East Anglia Three offshore wind farm off the UK coast, with the first of 95 monopile foundations now installed by Seaway7’s Seaway Ventus jack-up vessel.
At 83.89 m tall, 10.6 m wide, and weighing 1,800 t, the monopile sets a new European record as the largest ever installed from a jack-up vessel, according to ScottishPower Renewables. The first of 95 transition pieces, manufactured by Windar Renovables, has also been placed, measuring 20 m in height and weighing over 400 t.
“This is a huge moment, both technically and symbolically, for ScottishPower and Iberdrola,” said CEO Charlie Jordan. “We are building something on a scale we’ve never seen before,” Jordan stated.
The Navantia-Windar consortium and Haizea Wind Group are fabricating the monopiles and transition pieces. The full scope includes the transport and installation of all foundations, seabed preparation, scour protection, and the inter-array cable network.
Installation of 95 Siemens Gamesa 14+ MW turbines is set for completion by early 2026.
