Italy, Milan: deugro has successfully delivered 58 km of Prysmian HVAC subsea cable, weighing 3,550 t, for the Cyclades IV Interconnector Project. The shipment travelled from Prysmian’s factory in Pikkala, Finland, to the transshipment port of Heraklion on Crete, Greece.
The project aims to link the southern and western Cyclades with the Greek mainland grid. To support the delivery, deugro designed a customised end-to-end logistics solution for Prysmian, coordinating every stage of transport from factory pick-up to final delivery.
As part of its scope, deugro provided a 23-metre-diameter carousel spread, engineering services, spooling operations, and specialist personnel to ensure safe handling. The heavy-lift deck carrier Vestvind was secured to transport the cargo.
Ahead of the voyage, deugro’s teams in Rotterdam and Milan carried out technical modifications to the vessel, including the installation of the carousel spread, loading tower, deck tensioner, and auxiliary equipment such as generators and a staircase tower. The system was tailored to accommodate the 58 km of subsea cable and allow smooth, direct spooling during collection and delivery.
The installations were completed over eight days at the ports of Rotterdam and Vlissingen in the Netherlands, in cooperation with deugro’s Rotterdam office and local partners. The vessel then sailed on schedule to Finland before heading to Crete with the load.
