UAE, Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) commissioned eight 132 kV substations and two 400 kV substations in 2025 as part of its plans to strengthen Dubai’s electricity transmission network.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said the authority continues to develop sustainable infrastructure in line with Dubai’s wider development needs. He added that the new substations will help improve the readiness of the grid to meet rising electricity demand with high levels of efficiency and reliability.
According to Al Tayer, DEWA currently has electricity transmission network projects under construction worth more than $2.3 B (AED 8.5 B). These include 52 new 132 kV substations, 223 km of 132 kV underground transmission cables, two 400 kV substations and 130 km of 400 kV overhead transmission lines. All are scheduled for completion by 2028.
By the end of 2025, the total number of DEWA substations across Dubai reached 394, including 27 400 kV substations and 367 132 kV substations.
Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power at DEWA, said transmission projects completed in 2025 also included the extension of 250 km of underground cables and overhead lines at a cost exceeding $360 M (AED 1.35 B). These works covered areas such as Warsan-4, Al Yalayis-5, Hatta, Saih Shuaib-3, Al Hebiah-5 and Jebel Ali First.
