Finland, Seinäjoki: Pure Data Centres Group (Pure DC) has launched the first phase of a major AI data centre campus in Seinäjoki, western Finland.
The full project could represent an investment of more than $8.5 B (€7.5 B), according to the city, making it Pure DC’s largest project to date and the largest single investment in Finland by a British company.
The first phase alone is valued at more than $1.7 B (€1.5 B) and will include a 110 MW data centre complex. Pure DC said the full capacity of this phase has already been leased.
The required permits and power-grid arrangements are in place, while the substation serving the first data hall has already been completed and is operational.
The campus, known as SJK01, will be developed with Finnish partner SDC Ventures on a site of about 150 ha. If fully built, it is expected to reach more than 550 MW of capacity.
According to the city, the first phase is expected to create more than 1,500 construction jobs, while the full development could support over 3,000 jobs during an estimated 10-year construction period.
The project is expected to strengthen Finland’s position as a European destination for AI and high-performance computing infrastructure. Finland already hosts the LUMI supercomputer in Kajaani and is developing further AI-focused computing capacity.
