Germany: German industry representatives and trade unions have called on the federal government to launch new offshore wind tenders before the end of the year.
The German Wind Energy Association and IG Metall warned that delays are creating uncertainty for developers, manufacturers and supply chains. They said recent developments, including the possible return of previously awarded offshore wind areas, have exposed weaknesses in the current auction model.
BWE president Bärbel Heidebroek said the situation shows that the existing system does not provide enough investment certainty. She warned that further delays in offshore wind expansion could affect Germany’s climate targets, energy security and industrial competitiveness.
IG Metall also raised concerns about the impact on industry and jobs. District manager Daniel Friedrich called on the government to provide clear framework conditions and establish a legally secure process for transferring project areas if developers decide not to continue.
The organisations are asking policymakers to work with industry on a revised auction design that can support long-term confidence in Germany’s offshore wind sector.
They argue that a stable project pipeline is essential for investment, manufacturing planning and supply chain development, especially as offshore wind remains a key part of Germany’s energy transition strategy.
