USA, Texas, Houston: Giga Energy has announced the opening of its new medium-voltage manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas. The 5,600 m2 (60,000-sq-ft) plant will serve as the company’s main US site for producing medium-voltage transformers, with production scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026. Annual output is expected to exceed 3,000 units, providing critical electrical infrastructure amid ongoing transformer supply constraints.
At launch, the Houston Factory will create 25 jobs, with plans to expand to nearly 100 as production increases. The facility supports domestic manufacturing and provides faster access to transformers for data centres, renewable energy projects, and industrial power systems.
The plant features advanced manufacturing equipment, including a terahertz drying oven that accelerates moisture removal during transformer production, enhancing consistency and reducing cycle time. Local manufacturing also allows Giga Energy to maintain direct oversight of quality and delivery schedules.
Matt Lohstroh, CEO of Giga Energy, said: “The MV Houston Factory combines advanced manufacturing technology with American-based production to deliver higher quality, faster lead times and new local jobs, all at a moment when the country urgently needs more transformer capacity.”
The MV Houston Factory will also supply transformers for Giga’s development projects, including over 500 MW of electrical infrastructure for AI-focused data centres. This will support both Giga-operated sites and colocation facilities for enterprise and hyperscale AI operators.
The facility is set to play a key role in scaling U.S. transformer production and reinforcing energy infrastructure for data centres, renewable generation, and industrial networks.
