South Korea: Haesong Offshore Wind Company has signed a grid interconnection agreement with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) for its Haesong Offshore Wind 1 and 3 projects. These projects, developed under the leadership of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and its affiliated offshore developer Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), will deliver 1 GW of renewable energy to South Korea’s national grid.

The agreement represents a key milestone in progressing the projects from planning to implementation and strengthens South Korea’s commitment to expanding its offshore wind capacity. It is also the first instance of a large-scale offshore wind project in the Shinan region gaining KEPCO’s approval to utilise the 345 kV joint grid connection method.

“This development not only secures grid access but also accelerates Korea’s clean energy transition,” said Jonathan Spink, CEO of COP Korea.

Haesong’s Strategic Grid Director, Jungwoo Hong, emphasised the project’s wider impact: “The initiative will boost cooperation among nearby developers and reinforce Shinan’s role as a regional offshore wind hub.”

Preferred supplier agreements are already in place, with LS Cable & System providing subsea cables and LS Marine Solution handling installation. The Haesong project is sited off the west coast of Shinan, Jeonnam, and is preparing to participate in upcoming fixed-price wind power auctions.
