China: Hitachi Energy has delivered its 69 kV HiDry dry-type transformers to a major offshore wind project developed by China Huaneng Group. Located at the L Site, roughly 70 km off the northern coast of the Shandong Peninsula, the installation will comprise 42 turbines of 12 MW each, contributing to a total capacity of 504 MW.
Wind turbine manufacturer Envision Energy has selected Hitachi Energy’s oil-free HiDry transformers, designed specifically for offshore environments. These units offer a compact, vibration- and corrosion-resistant build that suits the limited space inside turbines, while also eliminating fire and environmental hazards associated with oil-based systems.
The dry-type transformer requires no oil-related maintenance, reducing operational costs and increasing reliability for offshore applications. As China’s offshore wind sector shifts toward higher-voltage (66 kV +) systems to accommodate larger turbines and improve energy transmission efficiency, the HiDry solution represents a significant technological leap.

With our HiDry innovation, we are proud to support safer, more efficient, and more sustainable energy generation at sea.”
The transformer delivery forms part of Hitachi Energy’s broader collaboration with Chinese energy groups. In June 2025, the company partnered with Zhejiang Energy Group to support the digital operations of its virtual power plant in Zhejiang Province.
