Hitachi Energy has introduced HMAX Energy, an AI-based suite of services designed to support critical energy infrastructure and improve operational performance across the power sector.

The platform focuses on strengthening grid reliability while helping operators extend the lifespan of existing assets. It comes at a time when electricity networks are under increasing strain due to rising demand, ageing infrastructure and supply chain pressures.

HMAX Energy is part of Hitachi’s wider HMAX portfolio and combines data analysis with industry expertise. It is structured around three core functions: planning, prediction and prevention. These tools aim to support maintenance teams with data-driven insights, identify potential faults early, and enable proactive measures to reduce risks.

According to Hitachi Energy, the system builds on existing field applications. Reported results include a reduction in revenue losses from equipment failures by up to 60 %, alongside lower repair costs and fewer transformer breakdowns.

The solution also incorporates digital twin technology for high-voltage systems, allowing operators to monitor performance and respond more quickly to incidents. In one example, a subsea HVDC link uses a digital platform to visualise asset condition and performance in real time.

Other applications include monitoring of switchgear systems, where data analysis has supported improved maintenance planning and reduced time spent on site inspections.

The company says the approach is intended to help energy providers manage growing system complexity while maintaining reliability.
