Croatia, Topusko: Croatia’s transmission system operator HOPS has approved the transmission infrastructure blueprint for Pantheon Atlas’ planned 1 GW AI data centre campus in Topusko.
The planned campus, located around 90 km south of Zagreb, is designed for up to 1 GW of total capacity and 800 MW of usable IT load. According to Pantheon Atlas, the facility will be powered by an on-site 500 MW solar PV plant and an 8,000 MWh battery energy storage system.
The approved infrastructure plan includes more than $500 M of transmission investment, covering 280 km of new transmission lines, fibre-optic lines and a 400 kV substation.
Pantheon Atlas said it is now pursuing a grid connection agreement, with construction expected to begin in early 2027. The completed infrastructure is planned to be transferred to the Republic of Croatia for permanent ownership and operation.
The company said the investment is intended to strengthen Croatia’s electricity transmission network and help address existing grid constraints. It is also expected to open access for more than 5 GW of new renewable energy generation capacity currently limited by transmission bottlenecks.
Project partners include KONČAR Group for the new substation, Dalekovod Projekt for transmission infrastructure design and Parsec Lab for data centre design and engineering.
Spanish IPP Greenvolt has signed a letter of intent to build the project’s solar and storage assets.
