USA, Alabama, Montgomery: HD Hyundai Electric is reinforcing its position in North America by building on its local production and sales network as investment in power infrastructure continues to grow.
Last year, the company recorded sales of $1.09 B (1.6149 trillion Korean won) and secured orders worth $2.88 B in the region. This marks a sharp rise of 379 % in sales and 458 % in orders compared to 2021, when demand in North America began to accelerate. Supported by this growth, the company achieved record global results, with sales of $2.76 B (4.0795 trillion Korean won) and an operating profit of $674 M (995.3 B Korean won), reaching a margin of 24.4 %.
A key driver behind this performance is its established presence in the United States. HD Hyundai Electric set up a production subsidiary in Montgomery, Alabama in 2011 and expanded it in 2018 and 2023, turning it into the largest transformer manufacturing site in the country. Even during periods affected by anti-dumping tariffs, the company maintained strong relationships with customers through its local operations.
The company is now investing around $200 M to build a second factory at the same site. Once completed, production capacity will increase by about 50 %, alongside new capabilities to produce and test 765 kV ultra-high-voltage transformers.
Its strengths include reliable product quality, on-time delivery close to 100%, and the ability to adapt designs to customer needs.
With ageing infrastructure and rising electricity demand, especially from data centres, transformer demand in the US is expected to continue growing.
