France, Paris: LS ELECTRIC and GE Vernova have signed an agreement to establish a joint venture focused on voltage-sourced converter high-voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) technology and projects in Korea.
The agreement was signed at CIGRE 2026 in Paris. The new company, named Grid X Technology, will combine GE Vernova’s HVDC technology with LS ELECTRIC’s local manufacturing and project execution capabilities.
The partners plan to cooperate on key HVDC equipment, project delivery and joint market development in Korea, with a particular focus on next-generation transmission infrastructure.
One of the main target projects is Korea’s West Coast Energy Highway, which is intended to transmit large volumes of renewable electricity from the Honam region and west coast to the Seoul metropolitan area.
LS ELECTRIC has experience supplying equipment for commercial HVDC projects in Korea, including the Bukdangjin–Godeok and East Coast–Seoul Metropolitan Area projects.
The company also operates an HVDC manufacturing base in Busan capable of designing, manufacturing and testing key equipment, including converter transformers.
“HVDC is critical when it comes to moving large amounts of electricity efficiently from where it is generated to where it is needed,” said Philippe Piron, President and CEO of GE Vernova’s Electrification segment.
LS ELECTRIC said the joint venture is intended to strengthen domestic HVDC supply capability and provide an integrated offering for major Korean transmission projects.
