South Korea, Seoul: LS ELECTRIC and GS Engineering & Construction (GS E&C) have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop next-generation DC power distribution technologies for high-density AI data centres.
The agreement responds to rising electricity demand from GPUs and other high-performance computing systems, which is increasing pressure on data centre operators to improve power efficiency and supply reliability.
Under the partnership, the companies will work on DC distribution technologies aimed at reducing power conversion stages and associated energy losses. They also plan to hold regular technical exchanges and explore applications for future projects.
The cooperation will extend to power infrastructure for GS E&C data centres. LS ELECTRIC plans to supply switchgear, gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) and ultra-high-voltage transformers as part of the electrical systems supporting these facilities.
LS ELECTRIC is also developing a wider DC distribution portfolio that includes solid-state transformers, solid-state circuit breakers and energy storage systems. The company operates a factory in Cheonan using DC power distribution as a demonstration environment for the technology.
For GS E&C, the collaboration combines its data centre engineering and construction capabilities with LS ELECTRIC’s power equipment and DC distribution technologies.
The agreement reflects the growing impact of AI data centre expansion on power infrastructure, with switchgear, GIS, transformers, power conversion equipment and storage all becoming increasingly important as computing densities rise.
