India, Maharashtra, Mumbai: An unidentified man, believed to be in his 20s, died after being electrocuted when he came into contact with a high-voltage transformer cable in Mumbai’s eastern suburb of Mulund on 13 June, officials said.
According to officials, the man touched a transformer cable and received a severe electric shock. He was immediately taken to the nearby civic-run Agarwal Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
A civic official, citing information from the fire brigade, said that a fire also broke out at the site. It was limited to an electric cable connected to a 22,000-V transformer, dry leaves, and the victim’s clothes.
A security guard at Richardson and Cruddas used two dry chemical powder extinguishers to put out the fire before firefighters arrived.
Power supply to the transformer was cut off, and fire brigade teams later conducted cooling operations, the official added.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed, and an investigation is ongoing.
