Sweden / China: A giant transformer built by Hitachi Energy in Ludvika, Sweden, is now en route to China after an extraordinary road journey, reports Ny Teknik.
Weighing 446 t, the transformer is one of the largest ever produced by the company. It is being moved on a 107-metre-long vehicle, bringing the total weight of the convoy to around 820 t.
The load is too heavy for rail transport, so the convoy travels slowly along Swedish roads at about 5 km/h until it reaches the port. From there, it will be shipped on a Maersk vessel to Shanghai.
The transformer will be installed as part of the Gansu–Zhejiang transmission link, a 2,370-km project designed to carry electricity generated from renewable energy sources across China.
This delivery highlights both the scale of modern power infrastructure and the logistical challenges involved in transporting some of the world’s largest electrical equipment.
