UK, England, Navenby: National Grid Electricity Transmission has submitted a planning application for a new 400 kV electricity substation near Navenby in Lincolnshire.
The proposed substation would be located approximately 1.4 km east of Navenby, to the north of Heath Lane. The application has been submitted to North Kesteven District Council.
According to National Grid, the project is needed because current demand around Navenby cannot be fully supported by existing regional substations, including Bicker Fen. The new substation would help connect proposed developments in the area to the transmission network.
The facility would cover around 13 ha (32 acres) and be built as an open-air substation, with a maximum height of 15 m. The plans also include a new access road from Heath Lane and internal roads within the site.
As part of the proposal, four new pylons would be constructed, while two existing pylons within the site would be dismantled.
National Grid said the project forms part of wider efforts to upgrade the electricity system and increase capacity for home-grown renewable energy, supporting the movement of power from generation sites to homes and businesses.
