USA, Indiana: RWE and Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M), part of American Electric Power (AEP), are joining forces to meet Indiana’s rising electricity demand. The companies have signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the full output of RWE’s 200 MW Prairie Creek project in Blackford County. Under the 15-year agreement, I&M will buy electricity from Prairie Creek, supporting an all-of-the-above energy strategy to ensure reliable and diverse generation.

Once operational in 2028, Prairie Creek will generate enough electricity to power around 42,000 homes, providing affordable and dependable energy for I&M customers while supporting Indiana’s growing industrial needs.

Ingmar Ritzenhofen, Chief Commercial Officer at RWE Clean Energy, said: “Our investment in Prairie Creek will deliver lasting benefits to Blackford County through economic development payments and long-term tax revenue funding for schools, roads, first responders and other essential services, while providing a stable source of income for local multigenerational farming families.”

Steve Baker, President and COO at I&M, added: “The addition of diverse, affordable energy resources is an important step in being Future Ready to serve customers’ homes, businesses and factories now and the years to come.”

Construction is already underway at the Prairie Creek site, employing around 240 workers at peak. Local landowners also benefit from lease payments, helping sustain agricultural operations and contributing to the local economy. Over its lifetime, the project will generate $60 M in property taxes and $10 M in economic development payments to support Blackford County schools, libraries, roads, first responders, and other essential services.

Prairie Creek will provide clean, reliable energy while delivering lasting economic and social benefits for the region.
