USA, California, San Bernardino County: Terra-Gen has brought the Lockhart Solar PV IV project into commercial operation, completing the final phase of the Lockhart Solar and Storage facility. The project uses an existing gen-tie line connected to Southern California Edison’s Kramer Junction Substation.
The latest phase adds 80 MW of solar generation and will provide electricity through a long-term power purchase agreement with a California load-serving entity. According to Terra-Gen, the output is enough to supply around 40,000 homes and businesses annually.
With all four phases now operational, the Lockhart Solar and Storage facility has reached a total capacity of 365 MW of solar generation and 173.7 MW of battery storage. Terra-Gen said the full facility can meet the annual electricity needs of more than 350,000 homes and businesses.
Construction of Lockhart IV created more than 220 jobs at peak activity, with crews completing over 122,000 work hours without lost-time incidents. Cupertino Electric served as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor.
The complete facility includes nearly one million solar modules and 248 battery enclosures.
Terra-Gen said the project supports growing electricity demand in California while expanding its renewable energy portfolio. The company currently has more than 15 GW of projects in its development pipeline.
