USA: Energy company RWE expanded its presence in the United States during 2025, bringing an additional 2 GW of power capacity online and raising its total operational capacity in the country to nearly 13 GW.
The newly commissioned projects are located across Kentucky, Arizona, Illinois, New York, Texas, California and Louisiana. Together, they represent 15 developments, including six solar facilities, five wind farms and four battery energy storage systems.
According to Andrew Flanagan, CEO of RWE Americas, the projects play an important role at a time when electricity demand in the United States continues to grow. He noted that the company is working to supply dependable and reasonably priced electricity while also supporting the economies of the communities where the projects operate.
The developments created more than 3,500 construction jobs and are expected to contribute over $500 M in local tax income and community funding. These funds will support essential services such as schools, infrastructure and emergency response.
Among the projects completed in 2025 are the Peyton Creek II wind farm in Texas, Ashwood Solar in Kentucky, Emily Solar and Casey Fork Solar in Illinois, and Baron Winds II in New York. Other projects include solar, wind and battery storage installations across Texas, Arizona, California and Louisiana.
For example, the Emily Solar and Casey Fork Solar projects in Illinois together generated more than 600 construction jobs and are projected to provide over $50 M in local tax revenue throughout their operational lifetimes.
RWE says it continues to expand its American portfolio to strengthen grid reliability and support rising energy needs from sectors such as data centres, manufacturing and electrification.
