UK, England, Lowestoft: Seatrium Offshore Renewable Services (ORS) has started work on a new strategic hub in Lowestoft, marking a multi-million-pound investment in the town’s offshore renewables sector.
The company is regenerating an industrial site on Hamilton Road, a location long associated with offshore structures for the North Sea oil, gas and wind industries. The site will be transformed into a new base supporting Seatrium ORS operations across the UK and Europe.
Seatrium ORS, formerly Sembmarine SLP and originally SLP Engineering, is part of Singapore-based Seatrium Limited. The new facility will be located in Lowestoft’s PowerPark, strengthening the town’s role in the clean energy supply chain.
The hub will support around 100 staff, with plans to recruit a further 30 to 40 employees as the company expands its offshore renewables business. Seatrium ORS also works with more than 70 offshore contractors and subcontractors.
A ground-breaking ceremony was held on 10 July, attended by company representatives, local officials and invited guests. The project includes a new two-storey, glass-fronted building, with construction expected to take around one year.
More than 90 % of construction contracts have been awarded to companies from Suffolk and Norfolk. NCL Contractors will deliver the project, while Greenscape Energy will install rooftop solar panels as part of the building’s sustainable design.
Seatrium ORS said the investment will support work on major offshore renewable projects, including RWE’s Sofia and Seatrium’s delivery of TenneT 2 GW platforms in Europe.
