Serbia, Belgrade: SGB-SMIT has signed an agreement with Comel Ltd. Belgrade to acquire a majority stake in COMEL Transformatori, a Serbian power transformer manufacturer.
The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to the usual closing conditions. The acquisition will strengthen SGB-SMIT’s European power transformer network and expand its presence in Serbia and neighbouring markets.
COMEL Transformatori brings transformer manufacturing expertise, an established regional position and local market knowledge. SGB-SMIT said the partnership will combine these capabilities with its own engineering expertise, international sales network and R&D resources.
The investment is intended to support future growth in the power transformer segment and improve the company’s ability to serve customers across Europe and nearby regions.
Following completion, COMEL Transformatori will become part of the wider SGB-SMIT Group, adding further manufacturing capacity and regional expertise to its European operations.
