USA, Florida, Orlando: Siemens Energy has opened a new artificial intelligence (AI) facility in Orlando aimed at transforming how electrical grids are managed. Based at its Innovation Center Orlando, the Grid AI Lab combines advanced AI systems from NVIDIA with Siemens Energy’s expertise to develop models that help utilities monitor and optimise grid operations in real time.
The lab will support the deployment of advanced sensing technologies across the grid, gathering data from connected assets as well as aerial and geospatial sources. This information will be analysed to generate AI-driven insights for better planning, maintenance, and resilience, particularly during extreme weather events.
A key focus is the development of digital twins using NVIDIA Omniverse and Metropolis platforms. These virtual models allow engineers to simulate grid performance, assess asset conditions, and test future scenarios in a shared digital environment. The initiative is expected to unlock new ways of using grid data to address evolving energy challenges.
The facility will also act as a collaboration hub, bringing together customers, partners, universities, and industry experts to test and scale new technologies. Siemens Energy plans to expand its research efforts on-site and hire dedicated AI specialists.
The 557-m2 (6,000-sq-ft) expansion forms part of the company’s broader $1 B investment in the United States to support rising electricity demand and strengthen energy infrastructure.
