China: TBEA has completed a 400 kV, 300 MVA main transformer intended for a large solar and energy-storage project in Abu Dhabi.

The SFFZ300000/400 unit uses a three-phase oil-immersed, air-cooled design with a low-voltage double-split configuration. Its low-voltage side consists of two independent 150 MVA branches, allowing connection to two 35 kV renewable-energy collection systems.

According to the report, the split configuration is designed to improve fault isolation by allowing one circuit to be separated following a fault while the other remains in operation.

The transformer also incorporates wide-range on-load voltage regulation, intended to accommodate changing operating conditions associated with photovoltaic generation and battery charging and discharging.

The unit was developed for Masdar’s solar-plus-storage project in Abu Dhabi and is designed for operation under the high-temperature conditions of the Middle East.

The project represents TBEA’s entry into 400 kV wide-range voltage regulation and large-capacity split-transformer technology, according to the report.
