UK / Germany: German transmission system operator TenneT has awarded a contract to Safelift Offshore, a Scotland-based heavy-lifting specialist, to support two major offshore wind substation projects.

The $5.3 M (£4 M) deal covers the design and supply of manual handling and lifting equipment for large substation platforms, marking Safelift’s entry into the renewable energy sector after years of service to oil and gas clients.

“This is the largest contract in our history and a clear signal of how far we’ve come,” said Steven Simpson, Managing Director of Safelift Offshore. “It reflects our readiness to support the energy transition, combining decades of engineering experience with a growing global client base and deep technical expertise.”

The company recently invested over $1.3 M (£1 M) in expanding its Aberdeenshire headquarters, adding a new fabrication facility to boost production capacity. Safelift currently employs 36 staff, including those in its sister company Safetrade, which supplies handling equipment for onshore industries.

The collaboration with TenneT reinforces Safelift’s ambition to diversify into offshore renewables, contributing to Europe’s growing offshore wind supply chain and the development of next-generation grid infrastructure.
