UK, England, Overton: National Grid will deliver a 200-t supergrid transformer to Overton substation on Sunday, 5 October. The unit, transported on a specialist vehicle more than 80 m long, will leave Teesport Docks in Middlesbrough and travel south via the A19, passing Thirsk, Thormanby and Shipton before reaching its destination.

The move will take place at low speed under police escort, with rolling road closures and temporary parking restrictions expected along the route. In some locations, road signs and street furniture may need to be temporarily altered to allow safe passage.

This marks the third transformer delivery to Overton and the sixth overall of eight supergrid transformers destined for substations under construction in Monk Fryston and Overton. Each site will receive four units in total, with final deliveries due in the coming weeks.

The new transformers are central to the Yorkshire GREEN project, part of National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade, a nationwide programme to modernise and strengthen the electricity transmission system.

National Grid said the delivery date may be subject to change due to weather or police availability. Updates will be provided on the company’s website.

“These supergrid transformers are vital in helping us deliver a cleaner, stronger and more reliable electricity network,” the company noted, thanking local communities for their cooperation during the work.
