Germany, Duisburg: thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG has appointed Georgios Giovanakis as a full member of its Executive Board, effective 1 June 2026. He will take on the role of Chief Sales Officer (CSO) and head the newly created standalone Sales division.
As part of the reorganisation, the Innovation and Quality division will also come under the responsibility of the CSO, with the aim of bringing all customer-facing functions under one leadership structure.
The Supervisory Board said the move is intended to strengthen the company’s market-oriented strategy and improve resilience in a highly volatile industry environment.
Ilse Henne, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board, said the creation of a dedicated Sales division marks an important step in reinforcing customer focus and competitiveness. She added that Giovanakis brings a clear strategic approach centred on value creation and market strength, which is key to the company’s ongoing transformation.
Giovanakis has more than 25 years of experience in leadership roles within the steel and materials sector. From 2019 to 2025, he served as CEO of thyssenkrupp Electrical Steel GmbH. Earlier in his career, he held several senior positions including CFO and CEO roles across Germany, Italy, and China within the thyssenkrupp Group and related companies.
He has also been part of the extended Executive Board since 1 January 2026, where he has already been responsible for Sales activities under the CEO’s remit.
