USA, Texas: Entergy Texas has started construction on the Legend and Lone Star power plants in Southeast Texas, with Greg Abbott attending the groundbreaking alongside local leaders and community representatives.

The two natural gas plants will provide more than 1,200 MW of electricity, enough for over 300,000 homes, and are expected to begin operating in 2028. The projects were approved by the Public Utility Commission of Texas in 2025.

The development responds to rising demand caused by population growth and expanding industry in one of the fastest-growing regions of the United States. To prepare, Entergy Texas launched its Southeast Texas Energy Plan (STEP Ahead), aimed at increasing capacity, improving reliability, and keeping electricity affordable.

These plants are central to that plan and are expected to deliver over $280 M in customer benefits, including about $41 M in fuel savings in their first full year. They also form part of a wider goal to add more than 2.4 GW of capacity by 2028.

Beyond energy supply, the projects are set to generate around $2.7 B in economic activity and create over 9,000 construction jobs, particularly in Port Arthur and Cleveland.

Leaders say reliable and affordable power is vital for continued regional growth, supporting both new and existing businesses.
