UK, London: The UK’s pipeline of onshore wind projects has exceeded 50 GW, according to RenewableUK’s latest EnergyPulse Onshore Wind report.
The total pipeline now stands at 50,134 MW, up 6.5 % from 47,058 MW a year earlier. The figure includes projects from early-stage development through to operational wind farms.
Scotland accounts for 75 % of the current pipeline, followed by Wales with 12 %, England with 8 % and Northern Ireland with 5 %.
Planning activity also increased sharply in 2025. Across the UK, 5,043 MW of new onshore wind capacity was submitted into the planning system, 47 % above the previous record set in 2013.
In England, 233 MW was submitted during 2025, the first full calendar year since planning restrictions were eased in July 2024. That exceeded the 188 MW submitted across the previous nine years combined.
Local authority approval rates reached 64 % in 2025, matching the previous record set in 2020, while larger projects determined by central government recorded an approval rate of 77 %.
RenewableUK said 3.5 GW of new onshore wind capacity is eligible to participate in the current auction round.
