USA, Missouri, Washington: WEG has announced a $77 M investment in its Specialty Transformer facility in Washington, Missouri. The expansion will increase production capacity by 50 %, automate processes, and strengthen vertical integration, with a focus on efficiency and reliability.
The upgraded plant will manufacture transformers rated from 1 to 10 MVA with voltages up to 46.5 kV. These units are essential for industrial manufacturing, data centres, and grid stability across the United States. The modernisation will also integrate robotic processes to improve speed and quality.
“This investment reinforces our commitment to the US market,” said Carlos Diether Prinz, WEG’s Transmission and Distribution Managing Director. “By expanding capacity and automating processes, we will respond more quickly to the evolving demands of data centres, grid stability, and energy storage.”
Phillip James, Vice President of Transmission and Distribution at WEG USA, added that the project is also about community investment. “We are creating 50 new jobs and modernising this facility, which strengthens our role in local economic development. We are proud to be part of Washington, Missouri, and grateful for the support of local and state authorities.”
WEG’s Transmission and Distribution Unit already operates three plants in Washington – Distribution Transformers, Power Transformers, and Specialty Transformers – employing 560 people. This new investment further positions WEG as a key player in advancing US energy infrastructure.
