Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul: WEG has completed a transformer revitalisation project aimed at improving the stability and efficiency of the power distribution network in Palmares do Sul, in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
The project focused on restoring the performance and extending the operational life of a 15/20/25 MVA – 138/23 kV regulating transformer that had been operating at a substation for more than 20 years. The equipment was originally produced by another manufacturer that no longer operates in Brazil.
WEG said its team of specialist engineers carried out the refurbishment using its technical expertise across all stages of the process. The work included manufacturing new windings, complete cleaning of the transformer core, the installation of new oil channels, and controlled drying of the active part using the Vapour Phase process.
The company also upgraded accessories and the control panel to meet current technical requirements. In addition, the transformer underwent testing procedures in line with ABNT standards to ensure reliability and compliance.
Following the refurbishment, the transformer was returned to service with improved performance and reliability, helping strengthen the stability and efficiency of the local power distribution network.
According to WEG, the project highlights the value of transformer revitalisation as a practical and cost-effective alternative to replacing existing equipment.
The company added that the initiative reflects its commitment to delivering flexible and customer-focused solutions, supported by advanced technical expertise and integrated manufacturing capabilities.
