Chile: WEG has secured a contract with Alupar to deliver a power transmission stabilisation system for Chile’s national grid, marking a significant step in WEG’s expansion across Latin America.
The project includes the company’s largest-ever synchronous condensers, along with step-up transformers, full control and protection systems, grid start-up and synchronisation solutions, as well as mechanical and electrical assembly supervision. The delivery is scheduled for completion by October 2026.
According to João Paulo Gualberto da Silva, WEG’s Managing Director of Energy, “This project reinforces our role as a global provider of integrated energy solutions. Our collaboration with Alupar creates momentum for future opportunities in the region.”
The stabilisation system will be implemented at two substations – Ana Maria and Illapa – located in Chile’s northern regions of Antofagasta and Atacama. It forms part of two out of five lots awarded to Alupar by the Chilean government in 2024, aimed at increasing the short-circuit capacity of the national grid.
The initiative represents a technological milestone for WEG and a strategic response to growing demands for reliable and resilient power infrastructure across Latin America.
